American President Donald Trump delivered one of the gathering's most anticipated speeches on September 22, defending his administration's military campaign against Iran and warning Tehran of further consequences unless it negotiated an agreement. He also discussed the continuing war in Ukraine, promoted American technological leadership, and criticized international institutions, including the International Criminal Court.

According to the Associated Press, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva offered a contrasting perspective, criticizing foreign interference in national affairs, urging diplomatic solutions to international conflicts, and calling for Security Council reform.

French President Emmanuel Macron challenged Trump's characterization of the situation in Gaza, arguing that humanitarian restrictions remained despite American claims of diplomatic progress. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian were among the prominent leaders scheduled to address the gathering on September 23.

Beyond speeches, the assembly provides opportunities for negotiations concerning Ukraine, the Middle East, and other conflicts. Special meetings are underway to address climate action, rising sea levels, and pandemic preparedness, demonstrating that international security involves considerably more than military confrontations. Even if no immediate actions are taken to address global challenges, the sheer number of nations in attendance makes the discussions themselves important.
