What Happened?
Yesterday, Ukraine launched one of its most ambitious long-range attacks of the war, carrying out a massive drone strike against Moscow and surrounding areas. Russian officials said nearly 200 Ukrainian drones were aimed at the capital region, with many intercepted but several penetrating air defenses and striking key infrastructure, including the Kapotnya oil refinery in southeastern Moscow.
Fires broke out at the facility, which supplies a large share of the fuel used in the Moscow region, and authorities temporarily disrupted operations at several airports while emergency crews responded. At least sixteen people were reported injured. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said, ‘as long as Ukraine burns, Moscow will burn too.’
Why it Matters
While drones have provided both sides with a low-cost way to launch attacks, they may also be prolonging the war itself. Drones are now the weapon of choice for Russia and Ukraine, and three quarters of the casualties from the past year were inflicted by drones. But because drones are so cheap and easy to use, the cost of carrying out drone attacks is very low, while the attacks themselves often derail diplomatic efforts with calls for retaliation…
Apple just enabled Starlink satellite support to T-Mobile iPhones.
One of the biggest potential winners from global satellite coverage?
Just about everything Elon touches turns to gold:
SpaceX IPOs at $1.77T
Tesla up by over 30,000% since IPO
And now - iPhone’s get satellite access
But while Wall Street focuses on Apple, Mode Mobile is quietly positioned to capitalize on this global satellite revolution.
Their EarnPhone technology already:
Reaches 490M+ users worldwide
Helped those users save and earn over $1 billion
And that was before global satellite coverage.
With SpaceX eliminating "dead zones," Mode's earning technology can reach 3B+ unbanked people globally in rural populations worldwide.
We’re talking about emerging markets with no infrastructure.
Right now, you can still invest at $0.52/share.
Over 59,000 shareholders have already claimed their shares and they’ve just secured the $MODE ticker from Nasdaq. The time to invest is now, before any potential IPO.*
The strike itself was significant because it targeted energy infrastructure rather than symbolic civilian sites. The Moscow refinery is one of the most important fuel-processing facilities in the country, and repeated attacks on it could disrupt supplies and increase economic pressure on Russia. Ukraine has increasingly referred to such operations as ‘long-range sanctions,’ seeking to undermine the resources supporting the Russian war effort. Earlier attacks on oil facilities elsewhere in Russia have already contributed to localized shortages and disruptions.
According to Russian and Ukrainian sources, this was the largest drone attack Ukraine has ever directed specifically at Moscow since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defenses downed more than 190 drones, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the operation successfully penetrated multiple layers of Russian defenses. The strike surpassed previous attacks on the Russian capital and represented a new level of intensity in Ukraine’s campaign against targets deep inside Russia.
Russian officials imposed an immediate ban on sharing images of the attack, but several videos of drones hitting Moscow can still be seen online. The psychological effect may be just as important as the physical damage. Images of smoke rising over Moscow and airport closures brought the war directly to residents of the Russian capital.
Ukraine’s expanding drone capabilities are exposing weaknesses in Russia’s extensive air-defense network and demonstrating Kyiv’s ability to strike hundreds of miles from the front lines. The operation also raises the likelihood of further escalation, as Russian hardliners have called for stronger retaliatory measures.
How it Affects You
Ukraine’s two-hundred-drone attack on Moscow marked a major milestone in the evolution of drone warfare in the conflict. Although unlikely to alter the battlefield immediately, the strike underscored Ukraine’s growing ability to threaten strategic targets deep inside Russia and highlighted how the war is increasingly extending beyond the front lines into the economic and psychological domains.
