Trump Administration Ending Immigration Surge in Minneapolis After Public Outcry

Trump Administration ending operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis following public outcry over tactics.

What Happened?

The Trump Administration announced it is ending a deployment of Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis following the public outcry after two U.S. citizens were shot dead by ICE agents.

Tom Homan said President Trump had approved his request to bring the operation to a close and added, ‘I will also remain in Minnesota a little longer to oversee the drawdown, to ensure its success.’

Mr. Homan characterized the immigration enforcement operation as a success, while Minnesota Governor Tim Walz told reporters that the occupation of Minneapolis is coming to an end.

Why it Matters

The closure of the immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis by the Trump Administration is likely due to the extensive public outcry across the country over the deaths of two U.S. citizens at the hands of ICE agents.

A clear majority of Americans disapproved of the tactics being used by ICE, and that much public pressure during an election year appears to have convinced the Trump Administration to try to limit the political damage the immigration operation in Minneapolis has caused.

Current Investors: Act By 2/26

With our breakthrough technology driving our company towards the next stage of development, we’re offering an exclusive opportunity for our current investors to reinvest at $11/share by 2/26.*

EnergyX is actively deploying its patented lithium production technology across projects in the U.S.  and Chile, supporting one of the lowest-cost production models in the world.

With nearly 150,000 gross acres of lithium-rich resources between our two projects and the potential to support 100,000+ tonnes of annual lithium output once both projects are complete, EnergyX is positioned to emerge as a leader amongst some of the biggest names in renewable energy.

Having already achieved its milestones, the window of opportunity is rapidly closing as EnergyX advances toward the next phase of development. This next stage marks a clear moment for existing investors to participate as the company moves out of piloting and towards commercialization.

Based on an average of several major public opinion polls, two-thirds of Americans surveyed said they thought ICE had gone too far. Disapproval was highest among registered Democrats, but a third of Republicans and more than half of all Independents also expressed disapproval with the heavy-handed tactics used by ICE in Minneapolis. The shootings of two U.S. citizens were just the most widely reported events, but there have been dozens of other incidents of ICE agents using force against Americans.

Minneapolis is a city with a large population of people of Somali heritage, but most of them immigrated legally to the U.S. in the 1990s during the Somali Civil War. Nearly all Somali Americans in Minneapolis were invited and brought to Minnesota by a host of different aid groups, charities, and churches, all of whom were owned and operated by American citizens. Over half the people in Somali communities in Minneapolis today were born in the United States, making them U.S. citizens by birth.

The Trump Administration’s view that the immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis was a success appears not to be shared by most Americans, and possibly not even by most Republicans. That disparity could become politically damaging during the mid-term elections in November, and Democrats have already indicated they intend to make it a top issue during the campaign.

How it Affects You

Minneapolis matters because it changed the views of many Americans who support removing illegal immigrants, but not by using excessive force. Though Operation Metro Surge is ending, the court battles are likely to continue, since the Attorney General of Minnesota is suing the Department of Homeland Security over the tactics used in the immigration operation.
