Tesla’s Robotaxis Operate Unsupervised in Austin, Texas for First Time
Tesla’s self-driving robotaxis now operating without supervision in Austin, Houston, and Dallas.

What Happened?
Tesla’s robotaxis in Austin, Texas, are operating unsupervised in the evenings for the first time since their rollout. The change puts Austin on par with Tesla robotaxis in Dallas and Houston, both of which have supported evening unsupervised runs since their initial launches in April. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said, ‘Unsupervised is pretty much solved at this point. So, there will be Tesla Robotaxis operating in Austin with no one in them.’
Tesla’s full self-driving system (FSD) has logged a combined ten billion miles worldwide since they began operating. Tesla claims that its FSD-equipped vehicles drive 5.5 million miles on average before a major collision, as compared to 660,000 miles for the average American driver. Tesla cites those statistics as evidence that the FSD is safer than human driving.
Why it Matters
Tesla’s achievement of unsupervised robotaxi operations in Austin, Texas, along with Dallas and Houston, represents an important moment not only for the company itself but also for the broader autonomous ride-sharing industry. While limited in scale and still evolving, the transition from supervised to unsupervised service represents a fundamental shift in how autonomous vehicles are deployed, regulated, and ultimately commercialized…
Why Apple’s latest move has #1 software company’s investors excited
Apple just enabled Starlink satellite support to T-Mobile iPhones.
One of the biggest potential winners from global satellite coverage?
Just about everything Elon touches turns to gold:
• SpaceX projected IPO at $1.75T
• Tesla up by over 30,000% since IPO
• And now - iPhone’s get satellite access
But while Wall Street focuses on Apple, Mode Mobile is quietly positioned to capitalize on this global satellite revolution.
Their EarnPhone technology already:
• Reaches 490M+ users worldwide
• Helped those users save and earn over $1 billion
• Grew revenue 32,481%
And that was before global satellite coverage.
With SpaceX eliminating "dead zones," Mode's earning technology can reach 3B+ unbanked people globally in rural populations worldwide.
We’re talking about emerging markets with no infrastructure.
Right now, you can still invest at $0.50/share.
Over 59,000 shareholders have already claimed their shares and they’ve just secured the $MODE ticker from Nasdaq. The time to invest is now, before any potential IPO.*
Unsupervised status means that Tesla vehicles are now capable of transporting passengers without a human safety monitor present in the vehicle. This is a major step beyond the company’s initial robotaxi launch in Austin in 2025, which relied on onboard observers to intervene if necessary.
By early 2026, Tesla began offering fully driverless rides to select users, and by May 2026, the service expanded to operate unsupervised even during more complex conditions, such as nighttime driving. This progression indicates a growing confidence in Tesla’s FSD system and its ability to handle real-world environments without human backup.
For Tesla, the significance of reaching this milestone is strategic. The company has long argued that its future lies not just in electric vehicles, but in artificial intelligence and autonomous mobility. Robotaxis are a first step towards fulfilling that vision, with CEO Elon Musk repeatedly emphasizing that a global autonomous ride-hailing network could transform Tesla into a high-margin software and services company.
The recent success of the FSD demonstrates that Tesla’s camera-based, AI-driven approach can move closer to Level 4 autonomy, where vehicles operate independently within defined areas.
How it Affects You
According to a study by Goldman-Sachs, the self-driving car market in the U.S. alone is expected to reach nearly half a trillion dollars annually by 2035. A shift to self-driving cars could be embraced by younger generations, especially since sixteen-year-olds in 2020 were only half as likely as their 1983 counterparts to get a driver’s license.
With fewer young people interested in driving and more elderly people becoming unable to do so due to medical conditions, the potential for increased demand for self-driving services is likely to continue growing over the next decade. Though late to the self-driving market, Tesla is still well-positioned to grab a considerable share of that market.
