What Happened?
On June 8, 2026, a powerful magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the northwestern coast of Cuba, the largest seismic event to affect the region in decades. The earthquake occurred in the Gulf of Mexico approximately sixty-five miles west-northwest of the Cuban town of Mantua at a depth of approximately sixteen miles.
Although no major injuries or widespread damage were immediately reported, the earthquake was felt across a remarkably large area, including western Cuba, Florida and Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. That included the tourist destinations of Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. Local authorities activated emergency protocols, but no significant damage was reported.
Why it Matters
Large earthquakes in the Caribbean region are rare. According to seismologists at the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred within a tectonic plate rather than along a major plate boundary, where most large earthquakes occur.
Intraplate earthquakes of this magnitude are relatively uncommon and can be felt over much greater distances than many earthquakes of similar size. Experts noted that this was the strongest earthquake recorded within roughly 200 miles of the epicenter since at least 1880, making it the most significant seismic event in the area in nearly 150 years…
Apple just enabled Starlink satellite support to T-Mobile iPhones.
One of the biggest potential winners from global satellite coverage?
Just about everything Elon touches turns to gold:
SpaceX projected IPO at $1.75T
Tesla up by over 30,000% since IPO
And now - iPhone’s get satellite access
But while Wall Street focuses on Apple, Mode Mobile is quietly positioned to capitalize on this global satellite revolution.
Their EarnPhone technology already:
Reaches 490M+ users worldwide
Helped those users save and earn over $1 billion
And that was before global satellite coverage.
With SpaceX eliminating "dead zones," Mode's earning technology can reach 3B+ unbanked people globally in rural populations worldwide.

Right now, you can still invest at $0.52/share.
Over 59,000 shareholders have already claimed their shares and they’ve just secured the $MODE ticker from Nasdaq. The time to invest is now, before any potential IPO.*
The strongest effects from the quake were felt in western Cuba, including the provinces of Pinar del Río and areas near Havana. Residents reported buildings swaying and people rushing outdoors as the tremors spread through the region. Many Cubans described the event as one of the strongest earthquakes they had ever felt. The quake generated particular concern because much of Cuba’s housing and infrastructure have suffered from years of economic hardship, making some structures especially vulnerable to seismic activity.
Cuba is also particularly vulnerable due to recent fuel shortages which has led to widespread power outages on the island nation. The lack of fuel and electrical power would likely complicate any rescue or recovery efforts following the quake. Fortunately for Cuba, initial reports indicate that casualties were few. The fuel shortages have been caused by an embargo on oil imports by the Trump Administration, and the purpose of the embargo is to topple the current regime in Cuba.
Countries like Cuba often have limited resources available to respond to major natural disasters. As a result, the damage from events like hurricanes and earthquakes can last for years because governments lack the resources to conduct thorough clean up and repairs. Lasting damages from natural disasters in Central America are one of the factors that have contributed to the mass exodus of people north to the U.S. border.
How it Affects You
Although the earthquake caused more alarm than destruction, its broad geographic reach and historic strength make it one of the most significant natural events in the Caribbean and Gulf region so far in 2026. Scientists continue to monitor the area for aftershocks, while emergency officials remain alert for any delayed reports of damage.
