Open AI Releases Personal Assistant Agent for Chat GPT

Open AI releases new Chat GPT personal assistant feature for Pro, Plus, and Team users worldwide.

What Happened?

According to an Open AI livestream message yesterday, the company has launched a Chat GPT agent for Pro, Plus, and Team users. The new feature is an AI-powered personal assistant that connects to your various services online to help complete specific tasks that users designate. Open AI also said the Chat GPT agent can go step-by-step from one task to the other to put together complex reports.

Chat GPT’s agent is not a separate product, but is incorporated into already existing product suites, which means there will be no additional charge for subscribers to use it.

Why it Matters

AI programs currently on the market operate mostly on large language models, which examine text and speech then provide responses based on past patterns. These programs can provide answers to complex questions, yet as their designers readily acknowledge, they do not possess any kind of real understanding of the world, which is referred to as general intelligence. General intelligence means a general understanding of the world around you, and agency programs like Chat GPT’s Agent are seen as a step towards general intelligence.

Why Billionaires Are Stockpiling This "Boring" Token

The world's largest financial institutions are building massive positions in a protocol most retail investors consider too "unsexy" to notice. As markets are volatile post-tariffs, this coin continues setting transaction records while flying almost completely under the radar.

Agent AI programs are so named because they have an agency, or the ability to do more than just provide answers to questions derived from large language models. Agency means the ability to operate web browsers without human input and to complete complex tasks not necessarily related to each other. For example, if you wanted a PowerPoint presentation on a topic, an agentic AI program could actually create the presentation simply from your prompt. All you would need to do is tell the program what you wanted and it would do the rest, even after you were no longer online.

Such a capability goes beyond what large language models can do, because they can only answer questions or give responses based on mathematical formulas. AIs with agency like Chat GPT’s Agent can complete actual tasks such as making reservations, completing presentations, checking weather reports, or buying gifts for an upcoming birthday party.

Which raises the question of how such AI programs might be used. Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, recently said ‘you won’t lose your job to AI; you’ll lose your job to somebody who knows how to use AI better than you.’ There have been a wide range of predictions about the impact of agentic AI. Some predict massive unemployment for humans while others think more jobs will actually end up being created. Only time will tell if any of those predictions are valid.

How it Affects You

Users of programs like Chat GPT’s Agent will have a new tool at their disposal for both work and leisure activities. For some users it is possible they could simply give their work to Chat GPT’s Agent, turn it in, and still collect a paycheck, but thus far actual instances of that have not been well documented.

Another possibility is that agentic AI programs could lead to less internet use by humans, since users could simply tell the agent what they want, then let the AI program use the internet to get it done.
