What Happened?
China has taken another step toward the mass commercialization of humanoid robots with the opening of a large new manufacturing facility in Liuzhou, Guangxi. On September 12, 2026, UBTECH Robotics formally placed its new ‘Super Smart Factory’ into operation, creating a production facility designed to manufacture more than 10,000 robots annually.
The factory is operated by UBTECH Robotics, a Shenzhen-based robotics company founded in 2012 and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Liuzhou has become an important manufacturing base for the company, while funds controlled by the Liuzhou government have also invested in UBTECH and the surrounding robotics industry. The new plant, located in Liuzhou’s Northern District, is intended to serve as one of UBTECH’s principal manufacturing centers for embodied AI robots.

The opening demonstrates that humanoid robotics is beginning to move beyond demonstrations and toward industrial-scale manufacturing. According to Chinese reports, the facility can produce approximately one robot every ten minutes when operating at its designed production rate. The automobile industry could prove especially important for the emerging humanoid robotics industry. Unlike conventional industrial robots, which are usually bolted into one location and programmed to perform a limited operation, humanoid robots are designed to work in environments originally built for humans. They can potentially walk between workstations, manipulate tools and objects, and perform several different assignments without factories having to completely redesign their production lines.
That flexibility helps explain why the Liuzhou factory is significant. Humanoid robotics has historically faced a commercialization problem: impressive prototypes could walk, run, or manipulate objects, but producing thousands of reliable machines at an affordable cost was much harder. Mass manufacturing could reduce component prices, standardize designs, and provide manufacturers with enormous amounts of operating data that can be used to improve robot AI.
How it Affects You
Liuzhou is a major Chinese manufacturing center with automobile, machinery, and industrial companies capable of deploying robots directly into working factories. From this location, UBTECH can manufacture robots, place them with industrial customers, collect performance data, and quickly incorporate what it learns into newer machines.
The Liuzhou plant is an experiment in whether humanoid robots can become a genuine mass-market industrial product. If UBTECH can sell and deploy robots at anything approaching the factory’s 10,000-plus annual capacity, 2026 may be remembered as one of the years humanoid robotics began moving from the laboratory into the everyday industrial economy.
