What Happened?
Meta has released Muse Glimmer, a new artificial-intelligence (AI) model designed to move sophisticated AI away from enormous cloud data centers and onto the computers people and businesses already own. Released on August 10, 2026, by Meta Superintelligence Labs, Glimmer is a 30-billion-parameter ‘open-weight’ model that can be downloaded and modified under the permissive Apache 2.0 license.
The model became available for download through Hugging Face on August 10th, with Meta announcing support for tools and platforms including Ollama, LM Studio and ExecuTorch. Meta is also working with companies, including AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, Arm, and Dell, to improve performance across different devices.
Why it Matters
For customers, the most important consequence may be a change in where AI operates. Most powerful consumer AI services currently depend heavily on cloud computing. In those models, users send requests to company servers, those servers run the model, and the results are transmitted back. By contrast, Glimmer has been optimized to run locally on a well-equipped Mac or PC using a single consumer graphics processor…
Elon and Apple just made waves for US #1 software company
Apple just enabled Starlink satellite support to T-Mobile iPhones.
One of the biggest potential winners from global satellite coverage?
Just about everything Elon touches turns to gold:
SpaceX IPOs at $1.77T
Tesla up by over 30,000% since IPO
And now - iPhone’s get satellite access
But while Wall Street focuses on Apple, Mode Mobile is quietly positioned to capitalize on this global satellite revolution.
Their EarnPhone technology already:
Reaches 490M+ users worldwide
Helped those users save and earn over $1 billion
And that was before global satellite coverage.
With SpaceX eliminating "dead zones," Mode's earning technology can reach 3B+ unbanked people globally in rural populations worldwide.
We’re talking about emerging markets with no infrastructure.
Right now, you can still invest at $0.52/share.
Over 60,000 shareholders have already claimed their shares and they’ve just secured the $MODE ticker from Nasdaq. The time to invest is now, before any potential IPO.*
Muse Glimmer is designed to be able to answer questions and carry out sequences of actions, which is what gives it agency. According to Meta, Glimmer can perform multi-step reasoning, call software tools, write and debug computer code, recover when a tool fails, and work through complicated tasks from beginning to end. It can also process combinations of text and images, allowing applications built around it to interpret documents, charts and screenshots. Meta says it was trained on more than 100 languages.
These capabilities could allow developers to create AI assistants that manage schedules, organize files, draft messages or interact with programs without constantly sending information to a remote AI server. Glimmer was trained partly through ‘distillation,’ in which knowledge and reasoning behavior from Meta’s much larger Muse Spark model were transferred to the smaller system. Meta then compressed Glimmer using quantization, reducing the language model to under 20 gigabytes so versions of it can operate within the memory available on high-end consumer hardware.
Businesses could also customize Glimmer for specialized jobs without being completely dependent on a commercial AI provider’s subscription prices, usage limits or API fees. Reuters notes that lower cost and greater customization are important attractions of open-weight models.
Running Glimmer locally still requires relatively powerful hardware, and a 30-billion-parameter model cannot necessarily match the overall abilities of the largest cloud-based frontier systems. Installing, configuring and securing locally operating AI agents can also require more technical knowledge than simply opening a chatbot application.
How it Affects You
Muse Glimmer represents an important shift in Meta’s AI strategy. Instead of assuming that increasingly capable artificial intelligence must always live inside enormous corporate data centers, Meta is betting that useful AI agents can increasingly operate on customers’ own devices. If that approach succeeds, AI could become more private, customizable, inexpensive and continuously available, changing it from a service people occasionally consult into software that quietly works alongside them throughout the day.
