JD Vance Meets Marines, Tours Federal Command Center in L.A. Amid Anti-ICE Protests
The vice president’s Los Angeles visit comes amid high tension from protests that have opposed the Trump administration's immigration policy agenda in the U.S.

What Happened?
Vice President JD Vance toured a federal law enforcement operations center in Los Angeles on Friday amid the latest clashes with protests over the Trump administration's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.
During his visit, Vance met with Marines as he viewed the multi-agency Federal Joint Operations Center and a Federal Mobile Command Center.
His appearance made him the highest-ranking Trump administration official to visit the area since anti-ICE protests broke out, according to reports.
President Donald Trump ordered thousands of troops from the California National Guard, along with 700 U.S. Marines, to respond to the L.A.-area protests.
A federal appeals court granted the Trump administration permission to maintain control of the troops deployed despite strong criticism from Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Although most of the protests have reportedly simmered down, the troops remain present in the area.
Why it Matters
Vance, a Marine veteran, previously highlighted the L.A. area’s related unrest to push for passage of the bill that would advance Trump’s legislative agenda.
'Insurrectionists carrying foreign flags are attacking immigration enforcement officers, while one-half of America's political leadership has decided that border enforcement is evil,' Vance wrote in a social media post. 'Time to pass President Trump's (big) beautiful bill and further secure the border.'
Trump recently doubled down on his deportation goals in the U.S. after meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the G7 summit.
The president stated that ICE officials should focus their attention on big cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.
His strong claims surrounded certain immigration practices in those 'sanctuary cities' that are opposed to the renewed plans of ICE officials.
On Truth Social, Trump instructed ICE agents to 'do all in their power' to achieve these objectives of 'delivering the single largest mass deportation program in history.'
ICE agents have reportedly been pressured to meet White House arrest quotas.
The aggressive set of demands has federal agents arresting 3,000 or more people a day as part of the Trump administration's new immigration crackdown.
How it Affects You
ICE has paused some measures in the agricultural, hospitality, and restaurant industries following Trump's decision amid employer complaints.
But a Homeland Security spokesperson stated that the administration will continue to follow Trump's overall direction 'to get the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens off of America’s streets.'
Many still brace for the expected impact following a ruling to allow the removal of temporary legal protections for more than 500,000 migrants from four countries.
That same pressure is also faced by 350,000 Venezuelans following another similar Supreme Court ruling removing temporary U.S. legal statuses.
The livelihoods of over half a million people may soon be disrupted while claims are pending that oppose Trump's new immigration directive.
