Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Expected to Propose Full Takeover of Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu expected to call for the complete takeover of the Gaza Strip.

What Happened?

According to Israeli media sources, Prime Minister Netanyahu is planning to announce a full takeover of the Gaza Strip by Israeli military forces. ‘The die has been cast. We're going for the full conquest of the Gaza Strip – and defeating Hamas,’ local journalists in Tel Aviv quoted a senior Israeli official as saying.

At the same time, a large cohort of former Israeli military and intelligence officials signed a joint letter they sent to U.S. President Donald Trump urging an immediate end to the war in Gaza.

Why it Matters

From a military point of view, a slow-motion takeover of Gaza by Israel has already been underway for several months. With each new phase of combat operations, Israel has expanded its presence in Gaza, pushing civilians into ever smaller enclaves. But the stated objective was to destroy Hamas, and a proposal to takeover all of Gaza has already generated sharp criticism within Israel.

Opponents of a complete takeover of Gaza argue it serves no military purpose since Hamas has already been destroyed. But with hundreds of underground tunnels to hide in, it remains unclear exactly how much of Hamas remains intact. Hamas has certainly suffered significant losses in terms of personnel and equipment. But the fact that Hamas is still leading Palestinian negotiations with Israel suggests it has not been completely annihilated, and it seeks to retain its rule over the Gaza Strip.

But there’s a critical question few are asking: Who will pay for it?

Instead of relying on taxpayer funding, Mode Mobile is using attention as currency, already paying out $325M to over 50M users. Deloitte crowned them North America’s fastest-growing software company in 2023 after their revenue soared 32,481%.

And investors have a window to get in early before this becomes the template for post-AI income redistribution.

Advocates of the plan to takeover Gaza argue it is necessary to ensure the total destruction of Hamas and to ensure it does not hold onto power. There have been calls from Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia for Hamas to disarm, but thus far Hamas representatives have given no indications they plan to lay down their weapons or renounce their violent anti-Israel ideology. A full military takeover of Gaza would be an enormous challenge for the Israeli Defense Force in terms of resources, and the question would remain, how long would such a takeover last.

Global reaction to the reports of Israel’s potential takeover of Gaza were largely opposed to the idea, with most countries calling for an end to the war in Gaza rather than an expansion. Because Israel relies on external support, especially from the United States, it must take global public opinion into account. If allies such as the U.S. discontinued support after a full takeover of Gaza began, it could put the Israeli military in a bad position where it had more responsibilities and fewer resources to meet them.

How it Affects You

A call to fully takeover Gaza will likely lay bare the divisions within Israel itself over the war, because the country is already divided about the way the war is being carried out. Such an announcement by Israel would likely put increased global pressure on the United States to end the war in Gaza as soon as possible.
