Gunman Kills Four in New York City Before Killing Himself

Gunman kills four and critically wounds fifth during attack on an office building in New York City.

What Happened?

On Monday evening at a high-rise office building in New York City, a gunman opened fire killing four people inside and critically wounding a fifth. One of the people killed was a New York City police officer. The attack took place at 345 Park Avenue, and the building as well as surrounding areas were immediately placed into lockdown for several hours.

Occupants of the building included the National Football League, professional services network KPMG and investment management company Blackstone. Several reports indicated the gunman was targeting the NFL but went to the wrong floor of the building.

Why it Matters

Mass shootings are relatively rare in New York City, and the details behind this one thus far are unusual. According to information provided by the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the suspect apparently drove from Nevada several days before the shooting. NYPD also said the suspect had a documented history of mental illness in his home state of Nevada.

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11th, NYPD established a special organization called NYPD Shield, which has grown into a world-class counter terrorism and law enforcement coordination operation. NYPD Shield collects and analyzes information from dozens of public and private sector intelligence providers and fuses that data every day into reports provided to local police and law enforcement organizations.

I've just identified the single crypto that's positioned to explode from J.P. Morgan and BlackRock's massive blockchain initiative.

This isn't speculation—the world's largest financial institutions are actively moving real-world assets onto the blockchain RIGHT NOW.

When trillions in assets migrate to this specific protocol, early investors could see gains of 10X, 50X, or potentially even 150X+:

The window for early positioning is closing fast as institutional money floods in.

NYPD Shield has been successful in helping identify and foil potential terrorist attacks ever since, which is one of the reasons why mass shootings are rare in New York City. This attack would have been nearly impossible to identify by any intelligence or law enforcement organization because the attacker appears to have driven from Nevada without telling anyone where he was going.

The targeted building did have security officers on duty, but they were among the first to be shot by the gunman after he gained entrance. After shooting at least three people in the lobby, the gunman proceeded to the thirty-third floor, which is occupied by Rudin Management. This shooting took place only a few blocks from the location where United Health Group executive Brian Thompson was shot and killed last year.

According to Bloomberg, a manifesto and notes found on him indicated a fixation on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE, which can be caused by head trauma. His social media feed allegedly showed his football career ended after a head injury, and he posted that the NFL didn’t do enough for CTE. The NFL offices are on the fifth floor, and apparently the gunman went to the wrong floor looking for them.

How it Affects You

Because of an increase in threats and actual attacks on businesses like this one, there has been a surge in demand for corporate security services, many of which employ ex-military members as private security guards. That trend is likely to continue given the increasing number of threats from potential attackers.
