Amazon Expands Same-Day Delivery to Fresh Groceries in Over 1,000 Cities

Amazon is adding same-day delivery for fresh groceries in 1,000 cities, aiming to reach 2,300 by 2025 and challenging industry leaders.

What Happened

Amazon is expanding its same-day delivery service to include fresh groceries. This will encompass meat, eggs, produce, dairy, seafood, baked goods, and frozen items across more than 1,000 U.S. cities.

The online retail titan announced that Prime members will receive free delivery on orders over $25. Non-members will be charged $12.99 per order.

The announcement is one of Amazon’s most aggressive pushes yet into the fresh grocery market. It positions the company in direct competition with Walmart+, Instacart, and DoorDash. Amazon says it plans to scale this service to 2,300 cities by the end of 2025, effectively doubling its reach in just over a year.

News of the expansion boosted Amazon’s stock, while shares of some grocery delivery rivals slipped. Industry analysts say the rollout reflects Amazon’s long-term goal of making grocery delivery as fast and commonplace as ordering household goods or electronics.

Why It Matters

Amazon’s entry into same-day delivery for perishables at this scale could reshape the grocery industry. Competitors like Walmart and Instacart have dominated the rapid-delivery grocery space. However, Amazon’s logistical network and existing Prime customer base give it a considerable advantage in reaching households quickly and consistently.

Palantir’s 2,500% vs the 32,481% story no one’s talking about

Anyone who invested in Palantir at IPO in 2021 could be sitting on 2,500% gains right now.

A great return, but that’s already in the past.

Mode Mobile has already delivered 32,481% revenue growth before even going public.

Mode has:

 50M+ users
 $325M+ paid to users
 $75M in real revenue
Nasdaq ticker secured for potential IPO
Pre-IPO shares available at just $0.30/share

Mode’s model pays users for their screen time and turns Big Tech’s free data mining play into a cash-generating engine for everyone.

Palantir now trades at 245× forward earnings, which means Wall Street has already priced in massive expectations.

But Mode?

Still private.

That means the market hasn’t had its say yet.

Right now, everyday investors (not just insiders) can get Mode shares at early-stage pricing.

When the Nasdaq ticker goes live, that window could close fast.

Palantir’s moment has passed.

Mode’s may just be starting.

But their pre-IPO offering is over 95% full…

The low $25 free-delivery threshold for Prime members could also pressure competitors to lower their own delivery minimums or membership costs. For non-members, the $12.99 per-order fee is competitive with other major delivery platforms. Amazon is clearly incentivizing Prime subscriptions as part of the rollout.

This expansion also shows Amazon’s growing commitment to fresh food logistics, a notoriously difficult and cost-intensive business. By integrating perishable deliveries into its massive distribution network, Amazon could set a new standard for both speed and reliability in grocery delivery.

How It Affects You

For consumers, the biggest change is convenience. Same-day delivery of fresh groceries means families in participating cities can restock staples such as milk, eggs, and fresh vegetables without a trip to the store. This could be especially appealing for busy households, elderly shoppers, or people in areas with limited grocery options.

The competition Amazon brings may also lead to better pricing, improved delivery times, and expanded product availability across the industry. As rivals adjust to keep pace, consumers could see more promotions and lower minimums for free delivery.

However, there are potential downsides. Greater reliance on same-day delivery will affect local grocery stores, and not positively. Many may struggle to match the speed and pricing of large-scale operations like Amazon. Labor concerns could also grow as demand for high-speed delivery puts more pressure on drivers and warehouse staff.

By aiming to reach 2,300 cities by the end of 2025, Amazon is betting that grocery delivery will become an everyday habit for millions of Americans, not just an occasional convenience. If successful, this expansion could change not just how we shop for food, but also how the grocery industry operates in the years ahead.
